Tufting Machine Operator

Summary: 
Sets up and operates the Tufting Machine by performing the essential functions of the job safely and efficiently.
Essential Functions: 
  • Check all safety protection devices before operating machine.
  • Obtain specification sheet from computer to set up the following items: Yarn on creel to match specification sheet, pile height, stitch rate and primary backing in correct width.
  • Load proper pattern on computer from order posted on machine.
  • Replace defective items on machine.
  • Load and sew on backing as needed.
  • Thread up any yarn breakage or hang up yarn as needed.
  • Responsible for keeping yarn straight through yarn guides and detectors.
  • Responsible for keeping yarn in the proper finger, wrapping rubber rollers, changing finger or plungers when needed.
  • Responsible for keeping backing tension devices on their proper setting.
  • Responsible for keeping all picker rollers clean.
  • Performing weight checks and giving to lead person for approval.
  • Daily cleaning of machine.
  • Assisting other tufting personnel as needed.
Education and/or Experience: 
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Fundamental math skills required.

Physical Demands: 
  • Must be able to stand, walk, reach with arms/hands, climb or balance, stoop, crouch and bend.
  • Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.
  • Must be able to push/pull buggies in upwards of 2500 lbs (requires additional person).
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision and ability to adjust focus including ability to pass Titmus Vision Test.
